I still can’t get over how close we were to the heart of the land-based response of the spill last week.  Not only was the marina we stayed at a staging location for the cleanup response, but we passed constant reminders the massive effort was underway on our trip down to Venice, the tip of Southeastern Louisiana.  Here is the “A Whale,” a gigantic vessel that joined the clean-up fleet after millions of dollars of modifications in Portugal.  Too bad it didn’t work.  That probably explains why it was anchored in the Mississippi River and not out skimming oil.
